For this project, I used white oak plywood for the casework and white oak hardwood for the cabinet doors. The drawer faces are made with both white oak and walnut hardwood. The top of the cabinet is also made from walnut hardwood. So, it feels like a happy medium.

You can even go the soft-close route, which is one that I prefer. Likewise, for doors, the hinges should be chosen to suit the weight and size for consistent operation without sagging.

To minimize wood movement and warping in cabinet doors, it is essential to consider several factors during the construction process. Firstly, choosing stable wood species with minimal movement. Additionally, allowing for wood movement by providing a small gap (approximately 1/8 inch) between the door and the frame is vital. This gap allows the wood to expand and contract naturally without causing stress or warping. Incorporating a solid wood center panel within the door frame can also enhance stability and reduce warping tendencies. Also, using a sturdy joinery method like mortise and tenon or dowels will ensure a strong and durable door construction.
